“What’s the reason we do what we do?…Look at me, look at me,look at me,look at me,look at me,look at me,…” — Dustin Hoffman on Laurence Olivier
There’s no mistake. All types of entertainers want to be heard, seen, or read. Over and over again. This pleases them and affirms them as creators of their craft. Of course, some don’t show it. They hide behind their humility. Which is a good thing because no one would to pay to have a pompous artist entertain them.
I’ll be honest. I’m not motivated by the “look at me, look at me.” I’m more driven by the idea that I have a creative voice and would love to be heard and appreciated. That’s my humble approach. I want to do good work, with like minded people, for an amazing audience.
At the end of the day, it’s all the same.
