Vacation

Amazing what a vacation can do to someone. We all need to detach from time to time. Even God has his day of rest. Though, Seth Godin’s quote keeps me thinking, “Do we really need one?”

Instead of wondering when your next vacation is, maybe you should set up a life you don’t need to escape from. – Seth Godin

Granted, everyone’s life is different. Not all of us are fortunate enough to live the life we want now. Because now you can’t. Now is not the right time. Your now probably sucks.

The video tells the story of an average Joe who has the 9-to-5-dead-end-job and miraculously turns from Ogre to Human. He finally takes (or was granted) the time off which made his family’s wish come true. Seriously? How miserable is that. So you’re human for 2 weeks max and then you go back to being the stiff, overwhelmed, bitter employee/spouse for 50 weeks. Fairy tales always gives you happy ending. But the story always continues. The trick is to stay human. Forever after.

Maybe your now is not the future you want, but it can certainly be the day that will mark the beginning towards that future. It might take you weeks, months or years. Stay human for your loved ones. Setup the life you don’t need to escape from.

  1. Wow… very cool Josue! And it’s funny… even though I’ve escaped the 9-5 even our own work-from-home lifestyle can turn us into an ogre if we don’t give enough margin and set healthy work/life boundaries. Thanks for the reminder.

    1. Thanks @DustinWStout:disqus. Yeah, even working from Home can be tough. I do it part time. As much as I want to concentrate, there’s always a little sense of guilt.”Should I take a break and be with the wife and kids?” You said it. Boundaries. If they’re clear and easy to interpret — we can definitely avoid becoming the next Shrek.

          1. You’ve got them! I will compile all of my notes and will start posting on the blog as well from our study. It is a four week series and well the book! Our study is actually open for others to come join, but we are doing it at 7:15a on Thursday’s.
